This weekend, we saw many NFL teams take the field for their first preseason action of the 2023 season.

As we get prepared for Week 2, here is a quick look at how the NFC North fared in Week 1 of preseason action.

Chicago Bears Beat the Tennessee Titans, 23-17

The Bears played many of their starters to open their preseason schedule, which makes some sense considering how many new faces there are on the team. Chicago entered the preseason on a high-note, and the Justin Fields/D.J. Moore connection got working early on. The duo connected on a 62-yard TD early in the game. It was a short pass that Moore took all the way to the house with some creative running and superb blocking downfield.

On their very next connection, Fields connected with RB Khalil Herbert on another short pass that Herbert took all the way to the end zone. Fields hit Herbert in stride, and the RB took the pass 56 yards into the end zone. Fields finished his day completing all three of his pass attempts for 129 yards and the two TDs.

Detroit Knocks Off the Giants, 21-16

Detroit didn’t necessarily have a great showing on the offensive side of the ball for much of the game. Nate Sudfeld threw a pair of interceptions in his first preseason game, and neither he or Adrian Martinez threw for a TD pass.

However, the Lions got a spark from their special teams group as punt returner Maurice Alexander took a punt 95 yards for a touchdown for the only Detroit touchdown of the game. After a two-point conversion and a rushing TD from Martinez late in the game, the Lions were able to hold off the Giants.

Green Bay Demolishes Cincinnati, 36-19

Green Bay Packers running back Tyler Goodson (39) is congratulated by Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (11) after scoring a touchdown in the second quarter during a Week 1 NFL preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and the Cincinnati Bengals, Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

Jordan Love began the game for Green Bay and looked strong in his first preseason game of the season. The first-year starter completed 7 of his 10 passes over the course of the afternoon, throwing for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Backup Sean Clifford was a bit more erratic over the afternoon, tossing a pair of interceptions, but he also completed 20 of his 26 passes for 208 yards and another TD. RB Emmanuel Wilson was the star of the show, though. He totaled 111 rushing yards on just 6 carries and scored twice, including an 80-yard TD run to really blow the score open late in the game.

Minnesota Falls in Seattle, 24-13

The Minnesota Vikings were the only team in the NFC North to lose this week, but there were plenty of positive takeaways from the game. First and foremost, RB Ty Chandler showed why he deserves to be the RB2 in Minnesota this year, showing off both as a rusher and a receiver.

Meanwhile, Jaren Hall got his first NFL action as well. The rookie QB was often under duress, but he did not force any turnover-worthy passes. Hall finished his day completing 6 of his 14 passes for 37 yards.
