Vikings WR Trishton Jackson Appears to Avoid Serious Injury

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings had their first bites from the injury bug during training camp practice. One of these players was WR Trishton Jackson.

Jackson, 25, was carted off the field Tuesday afternoon with an apparent knee injury. as reported by Ben Goessling, who tweeted, “They’re getting the cart for Vikings receiver Trishton Jackson, who went down with what appeared to be a right knee injury after a deep ball on the sideline. Justin Jefferson, Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah all went over to check on him.”

However, Jackson seems to have avoided the worst-case scenario with this injury. On Wednesday afternoon, Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips took to the podium for a press conference and discussed the status of the young receiver:

“The news on Trishton Jackson, his injury, his knee, looks like we avoided anything serious. No ligament damage there, so that was really encouraging for all of us, including Trishton,” Phillips said. “He’s sore, but it looks like he’s going to be okay.”

Phillips also mentioned that O’Connell may provide another update on Jackson status on Thursday.

Jackson is entering his fourth NFL season, but the 25-year-old is yet to appear in a regular season game. To this point in training camp, the wide receiver has put together quite a highlight reel, with a couple very sweet catches circulating around social media.

A year ago, Jackson was one of the Vikings preseason heroes before being cut. Over the course of the three exhibition games, he caught five passes for a total of 71 yards. Prior to joining the Vikings, he spent training camps in 2020 and 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams where he was coached by Kevin O’Connell. During the 2021 preseason, he started two games and caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson has been vying for a roster spot with the Vikings this year in the midst of a competition with Jalen Reagor, Jalen Nailor, Brandon Powell, and Blake Proehl. Hopefully, he is able to get back on the field soon and continue to compete with the rest of his teammates throughout the remainder of training camp and preseason.

The Vikings begin their preseason next Thursday when they travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks on August 10th.
